Nos encontramos muchas muchachas.

We met many girls would be “Se encontrámos muchas chicas”. Indirect object pronoun vs direct object pronoun.

“Encontrarse” is more of a “find” than “meet”.

Conocer in the past is more of a “met”

So it would be “Nosotros conocimos muchos chicas.”
