How to talk to people if I know him?

Start smiling and waving when you pass him in the hallway, eventually he will wave AND smile back! Then ask homework questions whether you need help or not. Make jokes too. Eventually start acting like you do with your other friends.

ask him for class notes.

Jess’s answer is perfect. Asking homework questions is a nice neutral opener. Most communication starts way before talking. It is in the eye contact and a friendly, welcoming smile that he’ll decide on who you are. By being approachable it will make conversation much easier. If you avoid eye contact, look away and giggle or look freaked out (Not that I’m saying you do this) he will have the “stay away” signal loud and clear. Lay the non-verbal groundwork first and the conversations will be much more natural. Good luck and have fun.
